Uk Area Groups

Thanks for that Paul
So whats the protocol for someone who wants to step up and be a AEC or deputy there is no information on this that I can find.
And as you say people need to step up and organise more rides locally so would it not make sense as I mentioned earlier to have a page with some guidelines on it.

Some of us know the real reason Paul's not been around for a while, he's still starstruck...

Re:

Cycling is the new golf;; maybe as in golf is having a hard time
Players geting older and clubs closing for lack of members,
Blokes in the old days could go out on a Sunday play a round and go back home dinner on the table,all good now most can't seem to get away for 5 mins answer ,be more like Ken do what you want :D

For me the fitness comes with rideing in a group,half the rides I go on
I would turn back after a bit through lack of motivation;
Pauls point about turning up on a modern bike I don't think a lot of you understand just how fit and skilful you have to be to ride old bikes :facepalm: I need as many gears as I can lay my hands on and brakes would be good if you could have a double disk on the front the speeds I travel :D

Are you saying you would quit if it wasn't fast enough ?

Oh I think we do ;) as I get older the inner chainring becomes smaller and the rear cog gets bigger I build my bike's to my ability no need for 53 11 in this case :D although I have to use a 42 on my super record cranks.

Re:

I need others to drag my backside up hill and down dale :D
Must say some of the rides I have been on have felt hard at times;
But never been left behind for too,long and always been encouraged
To keep going ,why you keep going back is too see new places and
Me personally have made a lot of new friends
Just a thing about the modern bike thing as well I try to be erm 26 in wheels and a few years old not carbon full suss 10 grand modern :D

Some points from me in no particular order:

-I don't use FB much, but with all this mention of the FB area groups being the place to be...can we get some sort of listing some of the FB groups so that we can ask to join them?
A quick FB search finds "Retrobike Yorkshire and North" and "Retrobike" itself, along with "RetrobikeDK", "RetroBike Argentina", "RetroBike UK" etc. All a bit confusing and no other obvious ones.

-I live in 2 places in 2 different regions, both places are on the edges of their regions, so at least 4 listings to keep track of: Anglian, East Midlands, West Midlands, North Wales & North West.

-Personally, I don't mind some people using modern bikes. Clearly it wouldn't be a Retrobike ride if we all turned up on them, but some people might prefer (or need) the modern stuff for a particular ride, or not have anything old to ride, or just a passing interest in older bikes. My Father-In-Law rode old British motorbikes for years, and nobody minded the modern Hondas and Ducatis turning up to their VMCC rallys and rides, as long as they didn't take the piss, show off with their decent brakes etc. or leave the old bikes behind.

-How does the insurance only come in only with AEC involvement? What needs to be done to give any ride organiser personal liability cover under the RB insurance? Aren't the rides either entirely organised by forum members and insured under the RB banner (safer and correct), or just a few like-minded individuals going out for a ride together no liability involved (risky).
-Maybe like AudaxUK rules (£5 membership per annum and a temporary day membership available for non-members on rides?

-Probably down to the outdated open-source phpBB framework software of the forum, but now that there's no National Ride listings and the Rides, Meets, Events list is a bit of a mess....Is there a way of getting a proper calendar of rides? That way, if any of us have a free day in our hectic middle-aged schedules, or are away somewhere different for a weekend, we can have a quick look and see what's going on that weekend. Click through to the event thread....Here's the VMCC and AudaxUK listings as a suggestion.

All the best,

As a golfer too, I agree with the above. There's been a noticeably big conversion towards Mamils. The new carbon tech and posing opportunities playing a big part in it. My plumber has 4 £10k + road bikes :shock: :LOL: I'm hoping to use the motivation to turn up to a few rides to get healthier and fitter. Hope there's a few more like me :facepalm:

It doesn't help the the BBC etc, big up a rider who rides in a larger team to get him to win some races in France and calls him a god etc.
But never even mention all the other British riders, men & women, hurtling around forests, down scary hills, getting gold and winning world series.
