Paul components.... I'm sure they're good and all but a set of those brakes with levers cost more than my frame and wheelset did..

I was foolish once and bought a set of Motolites which are very nice brakes but the only thing that makes them good is the adjustability for different wheel sizes, other than that they're finicky and in comparison to my cheap modern deores that I got for 20 quid they didn't perform any better.. But that's rim brakes of course. Would like to give those klampers a go but first I'd have to find a way to sell @Mickeyspinn to some human traffickers as I believe he'd sell well with his skillset. Don't worry Mickey, I'd sell you to people that knew all about good craic, fueling you with cheap lager as you sit in your workshop producing bits and bobs for their militia

I appreciate, it’s still not cheap for brakes but a damn sight cheaper than what I paid.

Had a quick stop recorded my very basic thoughts about the trp Spykes and am now heading home. One hell of a lovely day to be by the seaside

So no initial WOW factor, but possibly a bit too early to draw conclusions on a first fettling ride.

I was reading some stuff on a CX forum, where the stock pads apparently are dreadful in wet and mud.

Otherwise, like the look of the Monkey. I bet it'll stand a bit of a spanking.

Which coast line are you on Imlach? Looked a bit to rough for the Baltic?

No wow factor, but better than the dreadful hydraulic brakes. It stopped, and I have some rather steep bits with loads of gravel, and with gravel I actually prefer a slightly slower response time - a more gradual stopping time. I suspect the levers are a bit noodly, but I doubt it has anything to do with the lack of bite, as they certainly bite, but the grip is underwhelming. Now mind you, as you all probably know, I'm a heavy fella weighing in at 300 pounds. But that shouldn't matter much considering the fact that v brakes stop just fine - even in the rain.

I suppose the pads and rotor require a bit of wear to really get the party started? Not sure. But I find it bizarre how close I need to have the pads to the rotor.

With that being said, the ability to move the pads on both sides using nothing but a hex key is beautiful, and I cannot fault that in the slightest. It just works. They also look nice and feel incredibly robust, but then again what caliper doesn't?

More rides to come, more updates to come. Need to replace that dreadful model x selle Italia saddle I've got fitted through. My others run Brooks and this one made me so sore I rode the last 5 km home standing up
