trials and how its come on

I am glad you remember Scott at the Bash Geoff-I might even have some pictures somewhere.Since my posts Julie and I have spoken to Scott at the past two Pre '65 Scottish Trials and have mentioned Retrobike but maybe he is logging in to "Retromotorcycletrialbike" instead ;)

Scott at the bash was one of those unforgettable events in my life, as I said, it made clear that a good rider can successfully ride any bike ~ although perhaps for not very long; I don't think Scott was particularly enamoured of the MF Courier, a very successful bike from the commercial point of view, but from a riders perspective, it was a bit of a dog.

BTW, I hope I was not too distainful of the current trials riders, of whose skills I am in jaw-dropping awe.
However, if bicycle trials were a little less demanding, perhaps more, and a greater variety of, people would take it up. At the moment it is the domain of the young, fit, single, competitive, male.

Unlike motor cycle trials, which enjoyed many many years of popular take-up by a wide variety of riders before the hopping began to make it way too competitive, bicycle trials virtually began with hopping about and demanded a very high skill level, which simply cut out all those others who would enjoy a more gentle form of the sport, on a bike they could ride home on, if necessary.

Is there such a forum? I wouldn't be surprised if there were...

I remember when the martins made it very popular so kinda don't like it based purely on seeing too many kids spending half an hour side hopping up a curb or how numpties identify my bike as a trials bike due to its rigid forks ; because a 44t ring is a great trials gear

When done well its ok . I liked watching Chris akrigg when he rode a Pace ( poor square tubing getting scraped against rocks ) he had a great forceful style ; no hopping on the spot for all eternity , he hit stuff hard and fast .

A mate had a Pashley 26mhz and he rode it well but got bored of trials and sold it to some prick who painted it black ; I mean come on , the blue was a beauty of a colour , who would get rid of that for black .

The Tongue brothers weren't bad . The younger of the two had a small bmx part in the Ride cassette dvd .

Eddie Tongue got pretty good at riding BMX...I think his bike control from riding trials really helped whe riding spine ramps etc where you have to be pretty precise!

Also pretty handy on trails too...I remember he used to travel all the way down from Stratford to ride my trails back around 1999/2000
