So I've just picked up an old Trek Mountain Track 820 for penny's, I'm trying to replace the rear brake cable but having issues with the cable mount/tube under the seat post. See pictures, I just can't get it to run through smoothly.

Are there any ferrules I could use? If not any advice would be great.

If you're going to use a V-Brake noodle you're going to need to by pass that dog collar by the looks of things.

Thank looks like the routing for a set of cantilevers...Best bet would be to run full length outer along the top tube I'm sure there will be other bodges available.

I've got a V-jobbie on my 950 which we originally got for my wee 850 nearly 25 years ago. The purpose of this was to act as a stop for V-brakes on bikes which didn't have one. It was rubbish and had a tiny M3 bolt which sheared as soon as we started to tighten it so we just ran a full length outer which was much easier. I recently drilled it out and fitted a proper M4 12.8 bolt which works fine, although it does somewhat chew up the paintwork where it clamps. There are a few options still out there if you search on ebay but most come from china with a 1 month lead time. That said they're also only a fiver so hardly bank-breaking. If it's just a quick build then I'd probably just use a good quality full length outer.
