It would be possible if you got the good key. They are problably thread stick with loctite.
But if they sre rusty, it doesn’t matter : you just need to clean them without removing

I removed the cantilever studs from a 2004 trek 8500 and it was hard work. Not something I’d do again, a good quality spanner is necessary and even then it is risky.

That’s an older bonded frame so it may be that they are bonded in too, I’d clean them up as I’m guessing you are sticking with cantilever or v brakes, a disc wouldn’t be recommended on that frame.

Depends how the mounts are attached to the stays as well.

Have snapped the bosses off a steel frame BITD. The studs were threaded in and replaceable, but so well seized with rust, the brazed joint/tube failed.

If you want to remove the studs to get the rust off just use a wet and dry abrasive pad and will take little effort to remove. Make sure to give us all some updates on your build thread.

Thanks & yes I will update the thread
I will probably have a couple more questions coming soon
It won’t be rebuilt as it was but with new & old parts
It will be built for my wife to commute to work
She already as a vintage trek alu/composite mtb.a smaller frame with a slop top tube
This one has a straight top tube & it’s larger
I will shift a lots of parts from the existing one to the new one
Please everyone keep sending advice

Rust diesn’t change things on studs because rotation on canti’s are made on bushing, not on the stud. Puting grease on them would be enough
