Top Gear

Agree with KeepitSteel. :)

Senna was a racing god. It was one of those " I remember exactly where I was when Senna had his fatal crash moments" for me anyway.

I'll take my place then

A film star ragging a car on two wheels
A Porsche made out of paper and a bike (nuts)
A foppy haired man driving a car that sounds like an angry god at 260mph+ (!)
A mini film about the glory days of F1, showing some of the the best ever cars and drivers doing what they did best
Lewis Hamilton struggling to come to terms with magnitude of getting to grips with one of the best cars ever made.

- don't care about film stars , would rather see someone with some worth .

- how many months ago was the vid from pistonheads posted here with the not actually in any way other than silouette "porche" ? There is also a vid where 4 guys ride through an American city in the shell of an actual buick before being pulled over by the police .

- why have may drive it in the first place when someone else got so much more out of it , the vernon is an ugly ugly car and I don't care if it can do xxx amount of mph on the one of two roads in the world capable of it . ok it's the fasted road car , how about we see it on the road then .

- an hour long motoring magazine program that spent more time with jezza saying he's got a hard on than the one thing worth watching , that was at the end and was just an advert for what I expect will be a dvd . It did pretty much show that modern f1 pales in comparison to the days gone by though , which is nice .

The only thing i agree with was Jezza's perving, which went on..and on...

As for your other points, I think you are missing the point!

The Veyron is FAR from handsome, but it is imposing to say the least, and it looks like it comes from the future (in a good way) And as an engineering feat its fascinating.
TBH all of our roads are restricted to 70mph, so what difference does any cars top speed make?
Its just interesting
As was seeing a film star, whether you like him or not, rag that car. interesting
Id be happy to watch any of your idol's (and no, TC is certainly not one of my idols) drive like he did, and id find it interesting and entertaining.

I never saw the Pistonheads vid you mentioned, nor did i really understand your point, but i'll hazzard a guess that 90% of the viewing audience hadnt seen the 'fake' Porche before, like myself. And I found the enginuity, creativity, and daftness...you guessed it....interesting.

Its certainly not the BEST T.V., but its at least remotely entertaining. And its been a long time since I saw anything as good as the Senna section.
Although 'Gazza's tears' got me going!

Come on, take a deep breath and think happy thoughts. Let the love out man. You secretly enjoyed it.

the porsche vid i posted about 2 months ago i think.

that buic is awesome. wonder what the legalities are in england with something small and light. old fiesta or micra, cincequento or something?

as for top gear, i usually wathc it on i player so i can skip all the drivel. i like some of the stuff but it is really predictable now.

" i'm going to drive (insert fast expensive car here).

ooh it goes well. ooh it corners well.

lots of opposite lock and tyre smoke.

then they drop the bombshell that its 20% more expensive than something Japanese and faster.

que tyre smoke and fast, jap car.

then the lighting and music changes and the original car comes back, presenter declaring he doesn't care about facts and figures, this car feels alive. i want one. more tyre smoke and possibly closing out the feature with the car silouetted in a sunset.

or having a piano dropped on its roof.

did you see the episode where they had something stupid like £10 grand to turn a renault people carrier into an evo beating track car?

that was absolutely rediculous.

Since my car was featured on 'Top Gear' in 1997, the show has come down! ;)

which was yours?

Hhaha! I wasnt expecting Moto-Build in Whitton!

I used to go to school just down the road from there, and my mate worked there on saturdays. They had a habit of cramming K-series engines from MGF's into Rover Metro's.
Always liked the fact they were fiddling with cars no-one else wanted to fiddle with.

Speaking of fiddling, the presenter also drove past the house I popped my cherry in...
Cheers for the trip down memory lane!

You forgot the bit where the "accidentally" set fire to something, usually camping equipment, or drive into one of the other presenters cars.

I still watch it, but with less and less interest each season while finding the presenters more and more irritating. When I was in my 20's, I used to look forward to Top Gear, now it's something I watch on iPlayer if I've got an hour to kill.

and the bit where they say 'it's a brilliant car, best in the world blah blah blah'...'but I still wouldn't buy it'.

I watch the show though.
