Yo

I am doing my first strip down and rebuild of a 1991 GT Talera

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=161611

and obviously am having to get specialist tools to strip it down! They all seem really expensive for what they are (!). How do you guys go about it, do you just buy them all or borrow off mates etc?

Also, I am after the build info for the 1991 GT Talera, bikepedia only goes back to 93 on it..

Cheers

Dan

I picked up a Lidl toolkit for £25 during their occasional bike bits sales... But I've seen similar kits on sale for around £30-40 online. The Draper stuff looks identical to mine acatually.

The kit you get is acceptable for the money and I've only managed to wreck the crank puller which is easily replaced.

Something like this...

On top of that I have a load of stuff I collected over the years from other bits of DIY and I just bought a set of cable cutters for about a tenner. Much much much much better than using the cutting edge on a pair of pliers

Off the top of my head you'll need;

Shimano BB tool
Shimano casette tool or chain whips depending on the fitment
Crank puller (might get lucky and not need it)
Chain splitter.

I'd imagine most of these will appear on Ebay regularly, and there will probably be RB members close by who would be happy to come around one evening with their tools and help strip it. I know I would, but it's a bit of a drive for me to you.

Edit to add: If you go into the archive section there is the 1991 GT catalogue in the manufacturers section HERE scroll down and you'll find the full OEM spec.

Bloody hell guys, you lot are brilliant.

Thanks for all the advice! Anyone around Stoke/Leek who fancies helping me strip the GT in exchange for a brew and biscuits dont hesitate to shout up!!
