A set of cantis was advertised on eBay US a week or two ago. Crappy pics, dirty parts and (wildly) incorrect description.

I tend to be reluctant to buy stuff from the States given transit risk plus additional customs charges.. but in this case i decided to risk it.

Parts were listed as “Machine Tech brakes” and described as taken off a 1995 GF Procal LTD - but they didn’t look like no Zero Flex to me..

Hit the bid - £78 all in, incl postage. This is what arrived this morning:

The Tektro I have don't have the tiny allen key on the side, different pad fixing too. Think you've done ok!

Thanks - I know they are Maglites.

Did a bit of digging and the seller was kinda close on one aspect of their description.. it appears they did come from a Supercal Ltd.. but he called the year wrong.

The ‘95 was spec’d with Grafton Re-entries.. and Machine Tech cantis.. which is where he went wrong. The ‘94, however, had both Grafton levers and Maglites - so I guess this is the actual source of the brakes. Even have the original, and barely used Dia Compe pads.

Made a mental note to learn a bit more about old Gary Fishers.. which I always took to be a dull-as-dishwater brand bitd. More or less a Trek with an alternative paint job.

Having now looked at the spec sheet of a few Procal LTDs, I can see I was wrong..

Congrats!

Apparently they had been even shown in the 1994 GF catalog

I've thought that those brake shoe holder had been introduced a bit later. Personally I do like the Grafton cantilevers with angle plate brake shoe holder a bit more, but £78 sounds like a great deal.
