Today's Ride

This one has been at the back of the storage for a few months, so I had a swap around today and decided to take it out for a spin.

A nice sunny morning coincided with taking a car-load of junk to the tip ( which is always cathartic!) I saw some rain forecast - but it didn't look like it so I ventured out anyway.

Turns out that the forecast was accurate. I got drenched on the way back 😄. Bike needed a wash anyway.

Temperatures have dropped back to seasonal norms now... and we have a week of rain ahead...however the last two weeks have been glorious.

Fence is super rad.

A few clouds about today, a nice breeze too which is welcome on a ride.

Managed to get a bit of a longer ride in. There are lots of dissused railway tracks around here, all from the old pits, which allow you to travel miles in every direction without going near any roads, around 99% of all my rides are completly off road once I reach the end of my street, which I'm grateful for. Today i had a quick blast around some local woods, which usually I just ride through on the way to the proper woods, but perfect for me at the moment, plenty large enough. A really nice ride, on a perfect day.

Definite wintry vibes today: overcast and chilly, following some weeks of nice autumn sunshine. Yesterday I spent a couple of hours bleeding the faulty front Hope Mono Mini on the Salsa, which I'd been putting off for months. Turned out to be much easier than anticipated, so was chuffed to be reunited with the old warhorse.

I'd also replaced the tyres since last riding this bike, fitting Schwalbe Rocket Rons. These rolled rather nicely, with a decent amount of grip on the dirt too -- a good compromise.

I took the well-trodden route out of town on the dirt road toward the burnt-out forest I'm always on about. The sun would peek through occasionally but there was no warmth to it.

Found a new track (bashed by someone in a 4x4) through the brush to the riverbank. This is the dominant watercourse in the region, which I have forded before on different routes. Today it looked a bit uninviting and there's no way across, even if I wanted to get to the other side.

And so back along the road I'd come out on, still enjoying the Salsa. Next job will be to replace the current rear derailleur, which is rapid-rise, with a conventional one -- it's ready and waiting in the shed.
