Today's Ride

Did about 25k on the Kona Jake on Friday evening and to my extreme annoyance, the chain is still coming off the top (lowest ratio) cog at the back and sticking in the spokes. On Saturday I re-installed the rear derailleur and re-set everything so that it all worked nicely. Set out on the bike again this afternoon, only for the same thing to happen again! Stopped at the side of the road and screwed the lower adjustment screw in as far as it could go. And it happened again 100m later!

Swearing, I pedalled home (it was only about a mile) and swapped over to the '98 Explosif. This little beaut took me on a nice, sunny, warm ride around our favourite haunts outside town.

Now home again, I'm contemplating the Jake -- could it be that I have installed my 10-spd XT cassette on the wrong-sized freewheel? I can't tell from the freewheel (it's on a Fulcrum wheel that came with an 8-spd cassette on it). It doesn't feel wobbly, but perhaps it's just not compatible. Or could my chain be too long? It's pretty tiresome setting out on what seems to be a well-fettled machine only to have it grind to a halt making expensive noises.

Did you check your derailleur hanger? Sounds like it's tweaked if you set the L endpoint and it's still over shifting.

Time to fill the thread up...

Same route I've done twice now but added a few more miles at the end. Found it tough going today right from the start NGL, I was looking for places to turn off at the very first climb, stuck with it though and found it awesome, just tough.

And another on the way down, I see people on road bikes coming up here all the time, they are going the wrong way. It's so tough I've not even tried to do it yet since I was a teen. *No pictures of the ascent from this wrong side today but posted it a while back

That looks like the Rivington road :D, very beautiful area and not far from where I used to live over toward Preston. I used to love cycling (on and off road) round there and also going to the Barn cafe. Great road for cycling and the surface looks to be much iimproved too! The memorial pictures are quite sad, hopefully nothing to do with the road which is often very busy, especially at weekends.
