Today's Ride

Spent the morning in my shed, sun streaming in, tinkering with a few things, generally cleaning components for upcoming builds. Had to re-arrange my wheel stash as the beams supporting it were bending badly!! Need to sell some!

Anyway early afternoon before I got out for a ride. Still cold about 9C but hopefully warming up this week.
IMG_5784.webp A bit more cloud in the afternoon, but still bright and not raining!!

Some people in here have been an inspiration to just get out there. Tried a new route today that I thought would be much longer than it was, it had some climbs that I found tough too but at last I found out if I was capable of doing it and I was. I could have done much more distance and I have a nice route I can tag onto it. Also that Fat Tyre Flyer book I bought from Charlie has been an inspiration too, if they could do hard Klunker miles then I should be able to do them on more modern kit.

As stated, it wasn't actually far and I've done much more. Probably toughest climb I've done though I think. data.webp

Great work. Getting out on the bike always improves my day. Nice to challenge yourself on tough climbs but also good to give yourself easier days too.

One of my closest friends was killed by a car while out on his bike back in January. I experienced a similar loss about 15 years ago and pretty much packed in cycling and got very miserable. This time I was determined not to shy away from doing the thing I love - and I have in fact been out riding a lot with my late friend's son which has been odd and sad but wonderful.

I'm always glad when I get out, don't always feel like setting off for a cycle or hike but I've never thought "I wish I hadn't come", except for mechanical failure (me or the bloomin bike) . I just wasn't sure I'd be able to do that ride and it wasn't so bad at all.

I did the same thing a week or so back, tried a steep section I wasn't sure I'd be able to do and it turned out that wasn't so difficult either but with no room for cars to pass and more traffic than expected I'm not sure I'd do it again. Also finding out its where that other (but very experienced) cyclist bought it too, rather put a downer on that route. Passed another cyclist memorial today (both narrow country lanes, both by cars), not going to not do it though.
