Today's Ride

Passed by Nissans UK factory on today's ride and whilst I'd always been aware of it's existence, it never occurred to me all of their stock/produced vehicles would be kept outside in public view. Felt like a bit of a glitch in the matrix moment with what looked like thousands upon thousands of Qashqais/Leafs just sitting there. 5 mins later I look to my left and I'm passing a passenger airliner then some sort of fighter jet - turns out there's also a Land Sea Air museum nearby. Interesting route that's for sure.

I'd like to nominate Continental Grand Prix 5000 S TR TdF as the worlds worst fitting tyre. I've never encountered such a bast7rd tyre in my life. They've ruined my hands, my temper and my tyre levers. I'll happily give them away to someone if you want them but I warn you, be ready to experience rage and frustration, and ultimately disappointment.

Last night failure meant my first try-out on my winter make-shift trainer. Massive thanks to @novocaine who shared his a while back and for answering my silly newbie questions. A solid hour trying a few things out, by the end of which I realised I can skip straight to the harder workouts. That said, there's something cathartic about maintaining 170-200w for 40 minutes.

Trainer and sensors from eBay. Mat, tyre and towel all on discount at Tredz. Bike, front wheel stand and components all from the parts bin. OneLap £4'ish a month 👍

Trying to make the most of this fab weather, so a quick lunchtime loop: 10 miles 250m. Took my old racer for the first time in yonks: what a flyer compared to the clunkers/gravel/tourers I’ve been using! 21lbs as ridden. Notes to self:

Going fast is fun
Tubs are terrific
Downtube levers are close to hand when you’re in the drops
Sell the carbon bike (give me a shout if you fancy a little-used carbon Sportive dripping with Ultegra and 1300g wheels) 😀

Glad it wasn't just me who had a bad time with tyres today! Barely out 20 minutes, rogue thorn got me - always a 5 min job putting in a new tube when you're at home but somehow when you're actually out it turns into an almost hour long debacle trying to seat the most stubborn tyre of all time.
