Today's Ride

It's been too long. Far too long. It seems another lifetime since I doggedly contributed my commute to this thread.

The Zwift subscription has been cancelled. The lycra donned. Clipped back in and off we go.

I'm conscious of not leaving Peggy alone for too long, as she gets upset. The neighbours say she howls when I leave her. An hour after returning from a 4 mile walk - or for Peggy 10 miles, I was back out pedalling.

Tried the Dearne Way from Bolton on Dearne ( Brian Blessed's home town), was greeted with this.

The One Planet: Kill It knobs have been through here. A lot of rural land around here looks like this...

After a mile or so I encountered a plucky old boy, must have been in his mid 70's, pushing his bike, asking me how much further it went on like this for...

Fortunately I didn't have to put up with this for too long. Another half mile or so and it was a rideable trail again.

Picked up the TPT near Wombwell, going north before it peters out near Cudworth.

Bit of a legend was Archie. Remarkably, he only had sight in one eye.

I'd lost a bit of momentum by now. It was turning into a mixed ride, with some busy roads thrown in.

Then I found countryside again.

It's grim up north. Goldthorpe. Still not recovered from the death of the coal industry. (Sorry about the finger).

On the way home...

31 miles. 7°c. Cloudy. Light breeze. Need to get out more. Screenshot_20230409_171621_Gallery.webp

Ridden everyday for ten days and feel so much better for it. Physically I feel good... for my age and current "appearance" but more mentally happier.

Breezy, 12-15mph, WSW. Felt like 6-7, high dense cloud, the odd small break, decreasing in frequency. After a solid Easter of walking, running and adventures with Coop, it was good to beat the incoming wet weather. My gloves matched the sunrise colours but I was having too much fun to take a snap. Managed to grab one a bit later looking over to Garden Mine.
