Today's Ride

The extended period of sun and blue skies, with healthy doses of mist and fog, continue. Lots of running, and yesterday after work, a trash around on Bee. On the way back I met another new one - welcome to this universe!

This morning, very light easterly breeze, a solid "warm" 13 degrees. Enough to get a healthy sweat going, especially on the climbs. Perfect conditions with hazy sun after some very light showers overnight.

With the Dartmoor classic in a few weeks, time to get a few more road miles under the belt...but beware the collapsed mineshafts!

I don't think this will be ready anytime soon.

Arrived Brighton 8.30am Sat. Coffee and croissants and chat. On the bikes by 9.30....down Stanmer woods to Falmer, twisty single track. Up Falmer hill, along the top to Kingston, along and then down to Southease - past the pack of gravel bikers having lunch, across the river and up the huge drag of Itford Hill, along to Firle, down into Alfriston and out to Longman Brewery for avocado toast. Yum. Hot, dusty 30km. Back to Berwick for train to Falmer, back up to Ditchling Road and coffee. 48km. Burnt arms, fast time. Great time.

Sunday - up late. Out with bike at 8.30 and onto roof of Yeti. Thetford sandier than a Very Sandy Place. Keep weight over front contact patch, but three high speed front washouts and one high side - but kept in the saddle. Two runs through the 'berm track' all good - first run better than second. Had screwed up one berm on the final set on the so-called 'red' - in low, so almost ejected from the next one. Tired.

Coffee 10:45, home.

Noice.

That's a well-spent weekend! Thetford always makes me think of Dad's Army -- apparently quite a lot of the outdoor scenes were filmed around there.

A solid 35 miles on Saturday afternoon, taking in the recently discovered cycle route 3 out of Marazion to St Erth. It's a good section, completely avoiding the A30, and relatively flat. St Ives was busy, but once out of the centre, the gradual climb to the top was rewarding. I could see much further than last month when it was covered in fog. Steady easterly breeze with high cloud, so warm but not hot. Pretty humid, didn't get over 17 degrees.

very nice photo and description - how has it been wth the wind being so weird for the past two months? Here it's been set in the NE for weeks, rather than the more normal SW - in the East that has meant very cold days (for the time of year), little rain and trees bending completely the wrong way.
