What with the HONC entry this morning thought i'd better get out and ride. Got a new camera for Christmas too. Started out with the wind and then it all went a bit...

Rode a section of last year's dry pleasant course to see how it was in less favourable conditions. Hmmmm.

14+ miles 1400ft 41 degF

Spotted a couple of fixer-uppers.

The Golden Gate Bridge (between San Francisco and Marin County) was closed to vehicle traffic this weekend for the installation of a new movable concrete median barrier — to replace the old plastic pylon system. The east sidewalk remained open for bikes and pedestrians. This is apparently the longest closure in the bridge’s 77 year history.

I decided a road bike ride down to check out the unusual situation would be fun and interesting… and it was.

Re:

Very cool pics of the bridge

I took my newly converted to single-speed bike out for it's first attempt at my usual route yesterday.
It had been raining hard all night, and the wind was still really strong...I struggled!
I was glad I was out on my own so I could go at a pace that suited my tired legs.
I just about made it up the big climb out of Corfe, with just my own bloody-mindedness stopping me from walking one bit.
More rides needed!

Is that a 29er?

Yeah, really great pics of the Golden Gate! One of the most impressive bridges in the world.
Will never forget the feeling I had driving there for the first time...

:D
