Today's Ride

My better half and I decided to venture out for a wee ride now that the weather has cleared up a bit. The weather at the moment is a tolerable 21c in the day time. Much nicer than the heatwaves a couple of weeks ago, and the nights are becoming cooler and crisper. This is the perfect time to do some night riding, which I'll be getting into more (though its hard to get good pictures with a smartphone in the dark)
The trip was about 30km through farmlands, residential hellholes and forests.
In the forests the council has built a nice recreational area with huts inspired, supposedly by the stone age, but any person with an ounce of historical knowledge would denounce that. Lovely place regardlessly, good for bbq.
It looks as if I might be riding less in the coming week, unless I decide to get the raincoat dusted off.

The wheat is ready for harvesting.
And that is exactly what's happening.
Hay bales.
Just under 26 miles through farmland and villages. Started sunny, turned cloudy.

Fast moving skies and scatted tiny showers, 14 degrees rising to 15-16 at 08:30, stiff and consistent 20mph easterly breeze.
There's a reason they call it LEJOG and not JOGLE: that headwind. Whilst it's great to get a sweat on, riding into a headwind like that for a week or so isn't for me. Luckily it was just a short stretch down through Kellynack to Sennen before that hard left and a wonderful tailwind, or eeb-it.
I stopped off at the Merry Maidens as they've cut a lot of the vegetation back; you can see them on the side of the hill as you make your way along the B3315. A good excuse for a few catalogue shots, especially as she's riding like a dream.
A scoot to Lower Drift, Sancreed, Grumbla and home. A solid 22 mile workout to ease into the weekend.

Today was a day populated with mistakes. I couldn't seem to make the right choices. Today's Karma was flowing in a different direction. Yet it all came out good...
Things were capped off by a poor judgement call involving a low hanging branch catching my backpack and dragging me over, losing balance, falling into a patch of nettles, in shorts, still clipped-in. A muttered expletive, picked myself up, remounted and carried on. Only to realise I was unstung... Stranger things have happened...

Rain was forecast for lunchtime and the forecast was not wrong. I waited it out and set off shortly before 15:00. The temperature was at 19°C but with the wind chill factor taking it down to a 'feels like' 14°C, which gives an idea of the strength of the wind. It started off cloudy but quickly brightened up and I enjoyed the sunshine for most of the ride: a 29 mile loop through farmland and along the coast. Very windy along the seafront: it could knock you off your feet at its strongest. I had to cycle into it for six miles or so—I just slugged it out two gears lower than I would usually be in along that stretch.
