To Grease or Not to Grease

More like a miracle big religion......does very little, but people love to believe....

I dunno seems like we've found allsorts of handy uses for it !
However it's not great for "hold" like hairspray...

Let's face it grease is more awesome wd40 won't hold a nut in a ring spanner and it's utterly useless when you need to make a sticky bomb 🙄

Ever tried getting grease in a tiny, tight and rusty orifice? Sometimes you need to use something a bit more fluid. It might be crappie for longterm lubrication but if you only need to get the tip in to clear out the detritus then little is better than America's favorite livation.

Is wd-40 an oil, nope, its a mix of oils in a solvent solution. Is it a grease, no, no it is not. Is it a lubricant, yer it is. Is it a good lubricant, depends what you want it for. Is it the right lubricant, normally no, but much like spit, it will do in a pinch and its worth having in case you get caught with your pants down mid job.

If you only have one lubricant, you probably shouldn't be working on your bike.

I've got grease in tiny tight and rusty orifices before!
Grease gun and grease nipple...marriage made in heaven 👍 however mechanical things arent made like that anymore..😐 and this is where a liquid bodge in a propelled can wins.
Frosty morning and a frozen 70 year old baggy VW door lock ....ppfffsssss....in and go 👍
Angry hornet dealt with at 6 foot ....done 👍
Rust stained ceramic bog pan? 🤨 Shiny white!
Glue gack on handle bars....done.
Chain lube? ....er no...does clean em tho!

that's how I did my petrol cap. :) but these days the wafers are so cheap I just replace them as a matter of course.
I used to make my old volks locks all one key ..valve lapping paste 5 mins of in and out with the key you want to match to barrel and voila...😁

having said that, my VW is 70 years old, it's only 38.

Indeed I do. As much as air fins are a wonderful idea, I find that sitting on the side of the road without a head gasket is somewhat tedious these days. A lesson learned from experience on the way to a show in North Wales.

Heathen I know, but care I do not, without the mk1 golf, vw would be consigned to the history books as another failed auto maker. Instead it is one of the biggest in the world now and you can still see the heritage when you sit in a modern eurobox. I grant you that the genocidic pricks folly with a young Mr porsche has its place amongst the VW history book pages, and what a story it tells, but my heart belongs to water these days.

Thankfully aircooleds don't have head gaskets so don't suffer that problem👍 there only weakness is a lack of normal maintenance and understanding.
Cut my teeth and knuckles on em...then went over to the magic that was water pumped but still rear engined vw..the T25....and then decided jap engines in them were even better 😁

I think it's shame Dr ferndinands history is tainted by the chap you speak of...however I think he probably didn't have much say in the matter. Guy was a genius...
