Titan 1/2 Trac

Signing up for updates @27motorhead , very cool looking project
Thanks! It is indeed a very cool project for me ever since seeing one up-close way back in 1990. That first encounter is still engrained in my brain like it was yesterday. Just don't ask me what I did yesterday! 🤣

Quite rare for these shores too and doesn't look like many have been built-up on RetroBike to my knowledge. Might even need to do some painting too (touching up only of course because the patina is totally delicious! 😋) so that'll be fun, especially with that military/agricultural hammered finish.

Really interested to see how this beast rides too! 💪

Nice pics and write up! I also remember that MBUK article with the lake jumping pic - I remember it seemed so inconceivable to my teenage mind that someone would do that with their £1k+ bike, but hey it definitely sold some copies of the magazine!

Looking forward to seeing this built up and glad you’re keeping the paint 😎

Back in the day, it certainly was an expensive bike to jump into lakes. Also a bloody heavy bike to retrieve from the bottom of a lake should you let go!

I have wondered if this was ever Jamie Tatlow's old frame at all? He has posted on here, so I might try and track him down and see if it was. It's got plenty of rust in places so looks like it might have sat the the bottom of a lake at some time! 🤣

Don't get too excited. This is just another photo of Jamie Tatlow (and Dave Hemming) lake jumping. This was in MBUK Vol 3. No. 10 (October 1990)

I have made some progress in the background as I have decided to use Campagnolo Centaur rather than Deore XT in homage to the bike Insane Wayne was riding in the previous page. Minus the Bullet shifters of course as I want to ride this bike! ;) Life has gotten in the way of any progress on this sadly, but I now have pretty much all the bits piled up, it's now time for me to magic up some time...

I think that's Robin Grant in the picture wearing the Klein kit rather than Hemmings.

Must admit although my 1/2 trac has been done quite a while I havent actually ridden it yet.. That picture of Tatlow getting some air further up the page is at the ski jump in Ash Vale which is about 10 mins from me. Maybe I will have a go at recreating that picture. Whats the worse that can happen, a few weeks off work :)

I think you're right. It doesn't look like Hemming and he also looks a lot more solidly built than Dave.

Looking forward to you recreating Tatlow's prowess on the 1/2 Trac! It's OK I won't ask you to cut your bars down to match! ;)

Will be interesting to see the weight difference between our 1/2 Trac's once mine is finished. Was very impressed by how light you got yours, mine will certainly be heading the other way by adorning it with Campag!!! 😊
