Tioga/Showa/Trek DS type Suspension HELP.

took the tops off , turned them upside down and pumped the forks ti dispell the oil
makes a right mess tho

this was the trek versions

The rockshox mag method of separating without the tools is
-with the oil in the forks as normal.
- remove the circlip.
-pressurise forks up to 100PSI, if they've not seperated by that point (rag around the seal area!) something is up.

With these though (Showa), Sutherlands 6th (hint search for that, maybe using icelord sutherland and ignore it being called 7th on the picture) they say you fill with oil to the brim and hit them rather than pressurise them.

The rockshox method works better if you've left them lying on the radiator with some oil over the seals. Ask Andy B about that

At the risk of sound like a complete numpty, what tops and how?

I removed one c clip and tried to separate by hand, nothing moved, going to try a little more force tonight.

google search icelord sutherland as mentioned above.

Assuming they are them, there are subtleties in the models and you'll have to read and try work it out which they may or may not be.

You may also want to add Suspension and Showa to your topic title to catch the eye of others.

Well I got totally stuck taking these apart so they have been to the LBS to get them apart for me. I'm picking them up on Thursday so I will have pics of the forks in there component part and with some arm twisting some instructions on how to get them apart with out blowing a hole in the garage door.

More later...
