Tim Gould's Team Peugeot Roberts White Spider

I'm now the lucky owner...

Just like to say that I'm now the lucky owner of this piece of MTB history...

Would like to thank Doctor-Bond and Biglev for taking care of this amazing bike prior to me buying it from Biglev.

It's in very safe hands and is currently being kept indoors until I get chance to sort out the garage/workshop next year. It will be ridden so keep an eye out next year come summer time as it may get some evening blasts around Richmond Park and weekend outings around Swinley Forest. In the mean time it needs a little TLC to get it rideable, but this will have to wait as I still have a serious amount of house renovation to do... This is meant to be my little boys room! ;)

Still can't believe I own this bike and I keep grinning everytime I see it.

Ta for now!
Tim

Sweet - I'm there as #53 in the novices  Just made my day! I was pretty sure I was there that year as I remembered it being bloody hot, and this confirmed it.

Re:

Hi Tim,

Nice to see you got it in one piece. Glad its back in the UK where more people can see it. Take care of it.

Cheers
Pete

Hi all, just discovered this thread, time to bring it back to life hopefully... I'm an avid Peugeot late 80s and early 90s fan. My first MTBs were all Peugeots that I raced on during my teens and used to visit our local Peugeot dealer during my school lunch breaks. Anyhow over the last 7yrs i've been slowly sourcing and collecting the catalogue bikes from circa 1987-1991ish.

Its taken me 7yrs to find a fully original Peugeot Team catalogue bike and here it is below nearly finished (just need to install the cables next week - its had a full strip down & careful restoration). It popped up on ebay 5mths ago in pretty mint / original condition. Now I know its not a genuine TEAM bike (chas roberts) and I'm still looking for a TEAM bike the riders would have used. If the owner of the one in this thread wishes to sell it and move it to a fellow Peugeot enthusiast then please post / say hello or contact me. If anyone knows of a TEAM bike that's on the move please drop me a line any time in the future.

The bike in photo has date stamps on the saddle 1987 and frame appears to be 1988. Running full XT, Rigida rims & Stronglite alloy bars / stem. The brazed seat collar was damaged (broken) so ive had to do a work around to install a alloy (nuke proof) seat collar. I looked into sending the frame away for repair but don't want to trash the original paint work & decided to keep as is. I will put up a separate build thread on all my Peugeots over the festive break if time permits.

The team bike looks like the 88 Montana but with a special paint job, nice bike that was too and the special paint makes it all the more rare. Seems a bit like my Raleigh Team 531 (take a high end bike from the range and turn it into a team rep, where the actual Team bikes were custom jobs from in Raleighs case the GoD workshops and in Peugeots from the Chas Roberts stable) and it's nice to have the rare edition even if we don't have the actual team bikes.
The Team Canyon is a real looker and shows off how Peugeot go so many design elements right in the 1980's and 90's. I remember the Sahara well too, it was on my shortlist of first MTB's in 1988 as Halfords used to sell them and it had some of the things that were attractive at the price, like alloy rims (a big bonus up from the Alpina) and 18 speed indexed Sachs gearing. It ultimately lost out to a Raleigh Maverick GT which was a few pounds cheaper but lost the indexed 18 speed and gained an alloy seatpin.

Nice to see a collection of PROPER MTB's. Can't believe it's 6 YEARS since the thread was current. Don't time fly when etc. etc. etc. ;)
