THAT WAS THE NAME I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER.. Caroline Alexandra... last time I saw here was at a Cross race in Sutton Park... she crashed right in front of us...

Who was she married to (or seeing)? Barrie Clarke? Nick Craig? Can't remember...

What about Richard Thackary??

She married Barrie Clark. Richard still rides a bit for fun I believe.

Barrie and Caroline did not get married.

OOps, sorry, I was wrong then. Apologies to all concerned. Seems I was fed some duff info then - but it was quite some time ago.

Carlton Reid (remember him from the very early days of MBUK- he did all those rides over the atlas mountains and the like) is living in Jesmond Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne. He runs the web based BikeBiz site and On Yer Bike trade mag. Mrs S was his PA a few years back.
Still see him on the school run with his kids in a Tag-a-long every now and then.
He still looks about twelve!

Just popped along to the sandwich van on the industrial estate an hour or so ago on my Cotic when this old bloke taps me on the shoulder. We chatted about the bike for a bit (he had not heard of Cotic and was a little bemused about the singlespeed bit) and he mentioned that he used to write for Mountain Biking UK BITD. We then chatted about proper bikes for twenty minutes and then he mentioned a MTB trike that he has gathering dust back home with early RC35's on. Turns out that this chap is Derek Purdy and he lives locally. I remember his articles on Mountain Touring, survival and real multiday epics in the highlands and lake district, as well as several excellent MTB route guide books. I've just spent an hour going through my old mags and he was in vertually every issue right back to issue 3 and all they way into the mid 90's. His last articles were in What Mountain Bike mag until a few years back too.

He's going to call in sometime with his trike and i will see if i can drag him out for a ride sometime. Seems very intersting guy that was there right at the beginning.

Anyone else remember him?

Si
