Threadless Headset !! new to me

Who would have thought getting my first bike after 20 odd years would be such a steep learning curve !!

With the weather being a bit naff and not being able to ride out with the kids i decided to have a tinker with my new toy.

The plan of action was to raise the bars a little to help my aging back

Imagine my surprise when the forks nearly fell out :shock:

Since i have found loads of info on the net, but curious what year they came in to use ??

Pace were playing around with threadless style headsets way back in about 1990/1. Dia Compe about the same time. Does that help?

I'd say they were pretty dominant in all but the cheapest bikes by 1995/6

They'll never catch on if you ask me, same with those V brake thingy's and new fangled disc contraptions

If you need to raise the bars you'll need spacers under the stem or idealy a stem with more rise
