Very cool, I love birds of prey. We have a Merlin which frequents out yard too. One winter day I had some explaining to do, as the lads woke to find it cleaning it's breakfast on the fresh snow in the yard. Blood and feathers being scattered across fresh white powder was quite the show

Well, I walked from the house to the greenhouse without noticing anything, until I opened the greenhouse door. That made the Sparrowhawk move and that's when I noticed it. It kept the blackbird underwater for another 30 seconds after that, so at least a 50 second dunking. So I'm more inclined to go with deliberate action, as soaking your own feathers isn't a good thing.
