The ultimate Q car?

Hmmmm.

What do you drive???

Okay, at the moment.

1. Land Rover Defender 110 CSW.
The Td5 engined derivative

2. Volvo V40.
General runabout/school-run bus/dog-carrier/bike carrier/etc...

3. Jaguar XKR
Goes like stink, sounds good, returns reasonable MPG for what it is, but not exactly a 'Q-Car' ;)

Well I just got my ultimate Q Car. Its the Volvo V40 T4. Black standard elderly gentlemans run about, in black but with the 2.0lts 200BHP turbocharged engine under the bonnet. Next plan is to take off the T4 badge and replace with the 1.6 one........

There's a T4 just on the lane from where we live, but it's maroon, not black.

Curiously enough, it is a chap (who looks to be) in his mid-60's who owns it

A lad at work had a Honda V-Tec engined Mini, but that wasn't entirely subtle, the extended front wings gave it away (& the wider track)

I never got a ride it in, but apparantly, it was rather rapid 'off the mark'

Going back to the initial debate about Holdens

This interesting machine was at a local show a couple of years ago, & isn't quite what it appears to be..........................

Also;

These Landies look a bit different too

I sincerely hope it's got more 'stop' than the original 10" drum-brakes!

'Captain Slow' may have faired better with this than the Triumph Herald he tried to cross the English Channel in.

Your BMW breaks down = song and dance about it as its a BMW, and should never break down!
See??

You obviously haven't had the delightful BMW early 320d ownership experience where the diesel engine goes pop at 40k miles. They told me it was unheard of. It's just amazing that the web is full of people with similar stories. Went to my local BMW specialist who said he'd seen loads of them.

Only a £4k bill. Yes, BMW made a lovely song and dance before paying nothing.

.

I expect someone has moentioned this already, Lotus Carlton.
My mate Mark, who has now sadly paased away, was an apprentice with British Leyland. For there end of apprenticeship project him and 3 other apprentices build a straight 12 jag engined rear wheel drive mini van. Obviously it had some big(for a mini) rears wheels but apart from that it looked surprisingly standard from the outside. I'm told the handling wasn't the best  but you can't argue with 0-60 in around 3.5 seconds.

Ah yes. Inlet manifold swirl flaps??

Turbo also a weak point.

Youre right, not had that problem. I buy the petrol engines...

Yes, plus some broken bits then entering the valves, smashed piston etc. Fortunately neither the oil filler cap nor dipstick was a write off.
