Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

28. Never really grown up. My first bikes in the 90's had Purple ano and suchlike. Basically anything I could bolt on that I could buy with pocket money or convince parents where 'life essentials'

So nothing has changed really, just have a few more bikes and I'm not as fast on any of them!

Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

well, i'll be 45 this year...
Started in '90, first proper bike was Santini road bike and later hooked on MTB (Diamondback Apex, then Kona Cindercone, then...)

Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

Same as Jussa really.
Just turned 44
1st proper bike was a Raleigh Arena then a modified tourer with Knobblies and Cowhorn bars to ride the local trails as i couldn't afford a BMX.
Eventually got a Bitsa Burner then did the Roadie thing and got my 1st Kona in '94.

son of a gun I'm 41, seen a bit come and go, tried a few things, rocked a few trends, lost too many friends.
My knees don't work as well as they used to cos I rode a bit too rough. Older and quieter and awaiting surgery I hope to remain in the cruiser class till I'm old and grey, 1986 all the way.

my first proper bike (not my photo though)

I REALLY like that bike!

Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

By the time of the first National ride at The Long Mynd on March 29th I'll be 65. MOT time again.

Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

45 this year
Learnt to ride on a Rudge, 10speeds, BMX and a chopper bike (Big family and lots of different bikes!). Local road racing in late teens and got into mtb's in late 80's. Starting bike touring while living in UK including a short stint as bike messenger. Commutering by bike in my 30's and discovered retro DH bikes in my 40's. Always enjoyed riding.

Re: The RetroBike average age thread.

45 This year.

Built my first off road bike (with the help of an older friend) using an old Raleigh kids road frame, some wheels with fat tyres (can't remember where they came from) and a motorbike handlebar when I was 9 so that would have been 1978! It had 3 speed hub gears and was awesome!! (Probably utter crap, but that's not how I remember it).

Brought my first PROPER mountain bike in 1987- a Muddy Fox Explorer (Must get hold of another one of them sometime) and have never looked back really.

Got into road cycling about 3 years ago and now spend as much time on tarmac as off, but I'll always be a mountain biker at heart.

Hurts more now when I come off and takes longer to heal but not about to give up just yet. Just have to remember Rule 5 when the going gets tough
