The old 26er vs 29er again...

Re:

As has been mentioned, the biggest difference will be dependant on what age you are looking at as geometry has changed dramatically over the last few years so any modern bike will feel different to something 7-10 years old regardless of wheel size. I'm looking at getting a new hardtail for messing about on and the one I'm looking at has a 65 degree head angle!!

Compare the large Orange P7 2011 to 2020:

2011- Head angle 68, seat angle 72, effective top tube 600mm, wheelbase 1131mm.
2020- Head angle 64, seat angle 74, effective top tube 648mm, wheelbase 1225mm.

These changes make a huge effect on how the bike rides. 26" plays 27.5" too.

26" doesn't have to be dead but if you like modern geometry you are pretty limited. Personally I like the current trends and find older bikes uncomfortable but you might not so it's worth trying a few.

Re:

Yeah that the thing, its the geometry side of it thats more appealing, the larger wheels are a bonus.I have an early 29er with an older style shorter wheelbase that rides similar to my 26er.
