Re: The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff and sales thread

wahey! the tentacles! not thought of them in a while. one of their tracks was my go to hi-fi tester back in the day. its generally anything by antonio foricione now on naim recordings or a bit of daft punk.

and ive had remarkable valve amps and bad valve amps but i wouldnt get excited about that pile on ebay like some would. my old beard expert series used to keep the flat warm at the same time!

Re: The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff and sales thread

Forgot about massive attack, mezzanine is superb and the bass is out of this world. Will look out for some O T too.

I love the version of Kick Muck on live underslunky. Incredible band live and as for the fruit salad lightshow, ooh my poor poor head.

That is actually a great question about which music. Unfortunately my 70s punk music would not really demonstrate anything on a hifi apart from volume.

Any more suggestions? I am going to try Massive Attack on my iPod - one of the few recent artists that i have!!!

I'm on that album starting the stomping to get the band back on. My first ever gig.

Have just discovered the work of Infected Mushroom. Seriously deep bass going on. Agree with the Daft Punk album - brilliant production quality.

Well, that seems very recent stuff you are talking about. I am stuck in the 80s and i fall back to the 70s and 60s sometimes. Incredible right now i have Paul Robeson on - Old Man River (Ole perhaps) and i think it is about 1926 - at a guess!!! Superb song but a bit fissly (<< hifi term?) but i can live with it.

Richard - i'll get my smock .......

If you're thinking older stuff, some Talking Heads recordings are pretty good. Remain in Light sounds good to me, Little Creatures sounds awful - despite being later. Some Rush? Hemispheres, Signals, Hold your Fire are good, Grace Under Pressure seems very hard. Older - Neil Young's After the Goldrush has some lush midrange / vocal quality.
