The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff chat and sales

Re: The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff and sales thread

good lord, that looks like there could be some nice bits in that lot. i wonder if its a mono set up? cant see well enough to determine. i bet that will make a small fortune.

Re: The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff and sales thread

Looks to be a stereo amp. May not make that much, I sold a similar set up as used by the Quarrymen (I dont think they went on to anything...) and that didnt make much despite being valve, old, stereo.

You forgot 'noisy, outdated, coloured and distorted'

It's easy to buy a solid state amp which will outperform a valve amp in pretty much every respect for about a tenth of the price, yet people still want valves. <shakes head>

IMO, only of historical interest, and likely to sound pretty crap.

Re: The *NOT BORING!* Hi-Fi faff and sales thread

Could I ask for your suggestions for some well recorded music to compliment your Hi-Fi set up, not just good music but very well recorded too

My fav albums are

Daft Punk RAM
mike oldfield Tubular bells II
Van Morrison Moondance
Dire Straits brothers in arms
and ermm Pink Floyd DSOTM

Try any Massive Attack album. They are produced to the absolute limit of CD. Run one through an oscilloscope and you will see what I mean. Run an Oasis album and it will look like Windsor castle.

My music tastes are little narrow but for shear musicality try 1990's Ozric Tenatcles albums too. Some were transferred from cassette though!
