Well Ok, so here I am, no difficult nickname or whatever just Martin.

I'm infected bij LTSbiker with the retro virus. Started mountainbiking in the early 90's (Batavus buster, cannondale Killer V500 (1995)(why did I sell that one to buy a roadie) a proflex 754 and some more...) and never looked back on the old stuff I started appreciating it when I bought a 1996 red anodized Zaskar last year. I parted it up a few months ago but saw a Klein Attitude on the internet for sale.

I was in love again, I never could afford it and now own one. Only thing left over was the Frameset en now rebuilding it. Secretely looking for some nice 22" thats's something time will say.

well just enjoy me :D ,

Martin

Thought I'd take the opportunity to make use of this thread... as with Martin - no clever nickname, just me! :)

Started biking in the early '90s with a '93 Conder Cone (red anodised adornments) - still got it although it sat in bits in various cellars, shed, and barns from about 1998 until about 2 months ago. Finally got round to putting it back together and have again become addicted to the biking world of the 90's!

Bought my GF a '94 model (black anodised adornments) from eBay about 3 weeks ago and have stripped and rebuilt it and am now in the process of kitting that one out with cool and funky retro kit as well!

Pics of both in my gallery - more to follow when I've fitted the deliciously retro bits & bobs I've picked up from the kind folks on here and other places :)

I'm back biking after 6 or 7 years out, and my god its changed. Its all 'freeriding', disc brakes etc.
I hear that! I took my '93 Cinder Cone into a local shop for a headset replacement - I'm fairly sure it was older than the kid behind the counter... he appeared to regard a hard-tail frame that wasn't a roadie or hybrid with complete disdain - even more so when I produced my Project 2's.

I quote.. "It doesn't have front suspension either?" Heathen!!!

This community and a couple of guys I work with is what's saved me from thinking the world has gone insane with regard to MTBs!!

hey, welcome all!

Neill, the cirrus is quite rare, but they do pop up now and again on the bay and things. I had an RM experience that I let go last year, but have an Ellison that needs building now. :D

Hmmm - Thats only about 20mins from me, I'll take a ride down there once I've taken delivery of and fitted my Ringle Stem, Topline cranks and NukeProof hubs ;)

I've been out of the loop too long

Hi all,

I'm getting back into MTBing now I have an excuse to commute by bike. It's been about six years since I really did any cycling, and longer since that was regular offroad.

I bought a Speccy Rockhopper in 98 which is still a great bike (currently poorly though, since the drivetrain gave up the ghost- now have a few components to fit that arrived this week. Gotta love Wiggle :) )

My first real moutain bike was a Raleigh Ravine which I'm hoping to get back on good terms with tarmac and light offroad, so I'm looking at a small rejuvenation project.

I'm thinking Sharon Osborne: functional and effective in her day, but a bit overweight. Now, following a bit of new technology, svelte, definitely older than she was, but can still go a few times round the block with the right rider. Not that I want to ride Sharon Osborne. That's where the analogy breaks down.

Basically I'm looking at keeping the frame and binning everything else. I've sourced BB, (threaded) headset, etc. Should be fun.

Kona Cinder Cone

Hello Retro Riders!

My name is Gabor, I am Hungarian but I live in Poland.
The first bike shop I used to work gave me some nice sickness to love Kona bikes, but no probs, I do not need doctor. After many years I had many of them, the start was with a Cinder Cone from 99’ than Kuku fully 00’ than Kilauea 97’ than Scrap 03’,of course not one after another. Those ones unfortunately now I do not have, I really miss just the first CC and the Kilauea(was beauty).
At the moment I have a HeiHei from 94’or 95’, a Kula Primo 03’ and a Cinder Cone my favorite.

I would be the happiest to know which year is the CinderCone from. I guess from the 80’s but I can not believe it, so I ask for your help guys about its age.

Bike descriptions:

The frame is cro-mo, military green, the down tube do not have kona sticker, just a simple K, on the top tube there are Designed by Joe Murray and Cinder Cone stickers, and on the seat tube there is a TBG sticker.

Group set: Suntour xcLTD, 7 speed, compact drive
Stem and bar: Velocity stem Kona bar
Seat: Avocet Kona
Head set: Impact
Pedals: Sakae low fat, double toe stripe on both sides
Rims: some made in Japan Urai similar to Araya rm-17
Fork: P2 spinner

I will upload pictures later.

Have funn!
