That's exactly what I used to do!

Have tried attaching various lumps of metal with magnets and small amounts of lube with very little success :| Only method that works is too turn the volume up which doesn't work in quiet passages :D Beginning to live up to my forum name.....

Re:

anyone done mods on speaker crossovers?
would love someone who knew how to wield a soldering iron cast their eyes over mine and see if any improvements could be made

There's not much you can do to a crossover other than replace like for like if anything has leaked or perished. But this only happens with extreme age or from external damage from being over/under driven.

Many hours of listening is required to alter a manufacturer's design. They will have access to proprietary software and anechoic chambers to suit

Re:

Best thing to do is measure the crossover, and then build an active crossover with the same characteristics. Then buy a pair of power amps, and go proper bi-amp, doing away with the passive crossovers altogether.

Another thing I need to do. Cheesy, you got another 405 hanging around? I'm gonna need two :)

No 405 but I do have a single 75w home build power amp, a miniature Aiwa power and a bonkers Kenwood spare. I'm awash with Quad 606 and Lecson still.

:p

Re:

currently amp-less at the moment, my old denon av amp is filling for now.
listen to mostly electronica through electrostatics, cd and dac are old-school.
one of my fav set ups, sadly long gone now, was an MF F-22 valve pre and an Incatech ID25.
would prefer an integrated though, something thats warm and detailed at low levels.
any suggestions from experience or anyone with something for sale they reckon would fit the bill....?

Re:

google searched the images monsieur fromage, they're not mine, but speakers are the same, supposedly!
might have to go take the back off one and check now!
they're not active, but have a power supply to feed the panel.....?
