The Great Glen By Water And Bike, There And Back!

Perhaps it sounded glib as I am very experienced on this water.

Back to 1978 actually.

Is that enough reason for confidence?

If not, then worldwide experience including some very difficult water ought to suffice.

If not then, the fact I have a two colleagues with full current certification and medical qualifications ought to just about do it.

Let us talk this through and accept it is a cool idea and very doable, and please do get onboard.

There is no pissing contest, but I will gladly wager if there were my flow could be navigated.

Re:

So it's not a pissing contest you say but then you go on to piss as high up the wall as you can.

If that is what you want then how about 1972? Or for water, the Olympic Slalom course at Augsburg in 1975? Not much but I'm happy with it.

Your claiming of confidence, vast experience, and your certificated/qualified mates comes across, to me anyway, as a tad arrogant, nowt can go wrong.

I would never use my confidence, in my experience to let me ignore the risks inherent in taking novices on a trip like this thinking all will be OK. It never is. All your experience cannot guarantee there will be no feck ups. You can't transfer your confidence and experience into others with none overnight.

Edit to add that I know I'm coming across as a crabbit bastard, one of my attributes actually, but from my experience one person's gungho attitude usually results in trouble for others.

HF, the point OCP is trying (in his own special way) is that you've still not answered the question. We get you want to do it both ways, but HOW? Do you mean stash bikes at one end and paddle from the other to pick them up? You also mentioned 2 teams, is that one paddling, one riding? Nobody is questioning that you are capable of it, but it's difficult for others to express interest if they don't know what you are planning. It all sounds a fun idea but also a big commitment, we just need more fine details.

Ole Men Ribber... The last time HF and OCP did the great glen by water, circa 1875...

FWIW and I'm sure some you have been there before, I rode the GGW from Drumnadrochit to Fort William a few years back, and found the route to be a relatively gentle and pleasurable ride in the good conditions we enjoyed. more fireroad and good views kinda ride.

I agree gmac, its a a nice ride in the right weather. The road up the opposite side is a nice ride as well, heading either north or south.
OCP and HF , no pissing contests or such, its a great idea and we are all here for the rides and mateship. If theres bitchin then no one will want to come along.
What is the best plan of attack, paddling first then riding or riding then paddling?
I'm also up for a trial run in the summer.

Re:

Thought I'd accidently clicked on BoTM for a second, put the handbags away fellas and play nicely
When will the pissing contest feature in this weekend of adventure? I presume the judging criteria will be flow rate, distance, colour?? and will there be prizes for the winner?

Re:

Jamie, I never said it wasn't a good idea but there needs to be more thought put into planning instead of "just do it" or "it's doable", of course it is, but you are not paddling the whole 60 miles and biking back in 3 days. Especially so with virtual novices amongst the paddlers and whether kayaks or open canoes are used. You'll know that there is a relative difference in the skill levels too in paddling a K2 kayak (more difficult, faster) or an open canoe (easier, slower). Open canoes are much more useful as load luggers which will be needed for camping.
So hopefully this pause for breathe will allow due consideration be given to paddling the length of Loch Ness.

And Dynacol if we are going to have a pissing contest, if we add alcohol content

as one of the criteria, I'm in.
