The economy and all that ?

The question is but a simple one that does not need to be anything more than it is

In your view.

In mine you have asked a very general question that does not warrant thought and response without some clarification.

But seeing as you replied, therefore the question I asked, you felt you needed to answer with nothing really constructive, which could indicate you also don't know ?

My response was extremely constructive. You perhaps misunderstand my point. Please don't allow that possibility to get in the way of your negative and dismissive attitude.

I happily admit I do not know the answer to a question that has no answer.

I think you've already been out voted - go and stand in the naughty boys corner! :roll:

I don't do democracy, or mob rule. There is a veritable Benny Hill Show's worth on here these days.

So you are saying in response to my question;

Who does the economy serve ?

There is no answer....

In which case why is the economy so important ?

I am saying your question is vague. For that you get a vague answer. No right and no wrong.

I was not intending to be negative, just wanting more information to work with.

That is as near as I will get to an apology.

The economy is a tool.

Not for the gain or enhancement of all, but not always to their damage either.

Depends on what you mean by serve.

Ok, then I accept your words as good enough for an apology, but perhaps I should put it another way;

Who or what is the economy obedient to, who actually benefits from a strengthened economy ?

And I ask these question for the very simple reason whilst watching or rather listening to the news on the TV, each day I hear about the economy and one day recently, I just asked myself what exactly is the economy and why is it so important that in these recessive times, it is full speed ahead for the economy at the expense of so much else.

Before I came on here to ask what has appeared to be a contentious question, I asked those I know, and when the waffle I questioned, many of those who waffled admitted they did not really know. So it occurs to me that although some think they know about it, in reality they don't and so I wondered how many of the population are like this, what are we believing, fact or fiction ?

As you say the economy is a tool, to that I would have to agree, but a tool for what and in whose hands is it wielded and for what purpose.

I'm determined to be serious about this one, for (as pointed out) most people know sod all about it.

The economy is the relationship of exchange of goods and services between people. That could be barter, although cash is generally more convenient.

A stagnant economy means less ability to exchange goods and services, which in turn means fewer chances to earn a living.

I think we all have a hand on the tiller, rather than one particular interest group. The leverage of the mass outweigh the elites, but we are so often led.

Thing is we rarely remember or act on our power, hence we keep falling into the trap of credit debt and paying ridiculous charges for things we can barter or take for ourselves from our land, as well as paying for all manner of things that are no use to the mass yet feather the nest for the elites.

You could also look at the economy as a benign mechanism that reacts only to input.

Fairly subjective really, no answer fits without context.

Whatever the conclusion, one thing is for certain, there are better ways to organise our needs and wants.
