The decline of European manufacturing and the rise of the BSO

The spoke guard and derailleur protector are crucial on a bike that isn't professionally set up, and delivered to the door by a cheap courier!

You're too harsh on the clubman - a reynolds 520 frame plus carbon fork could cost you 850 alone now!

Don't forget the derailleur protector too:View attachment 907980
I really like the frame, it seems nicely made with a quality paint finish, it's just where costs are saved that irritates me, not just with the Dawes but with bikes in general. I find it irksome that the components that are most difficult to change for non tinkering cyclists are the ones that manufacturers skimp on, headset, bottom bracket and hubs. I don't have anything against the clubman, it's the first bike I could reach in the man cave to list for sale, others will follow and if the clubman doesn't sell then I'd happily upgrade some parts and keep it.

I have a good mate who rides anything . It does not matter how cheap and heavy it is . He did coast to coast on a bike could best describe as scaffolding poles with bits attached. He Rode up the hill from Robins Hood bay without stopping , i have never seen him struggle, what ever he rides. It really pisses me off .

I was checking ebay earlier to see if there was any nibbles on the Dawes when this Cinelli appeared like magic.

I thought, now that is a bit of me, it's like a "modern" Dawes Clubman and not a bad price at £899. Then I checked out the rrp of £1799 followed by spotting the low end headset, hubs and bottom bracket.

EDIT - and check out those cable disc brakes
