The big sales slowdown

Talking about my local market (Germany), the "analog" bike market is slowly dying, as everyone is now crazy with ebikes (folding, MTB, cargo,... al kinds are booming). Basically only the super cheap or collectible sell. The 200€ to €1000 market does not move.

I only sell in my local classifieds as I hate posting, but the market is inundated with trekking bikes (German for hybrids) that just don't move as everyone is switching to ebikes. You can also start to see ebikes from the first wave being on sale, unexpectedly at very low prices as nobody wants the hassle of a 10y old battery (new batteries from reputable brands start at €500).

I see a small resurgence in steel classy hybrids (the new hipster target for "gravel conversions"), think Multitracks, Crossroads, etc or rare brands with high perceived value (Koga Miyata, Kuwahara, Bontrager,...)

Also at work we’ve had an influx of people over the last few months unlike before asking if we would buy their bike or know what’s it’s worth where to sell ect We never buy any bikes as we are CiC bike project but it maybe shows there’s a lot of people trying to get rid of whatever they can..

maybe would get the odd person here and there trying to sell us a bike a month before but recently last couple of months it’s been nearly every day either in person, phone, web
This ties in with what I've seen "down the tip" lately too, not just the usual Carrera/Apollo rusty last-year's Christmas tat but some reasonable bikes in decent shape, of all genres that I would've expected to see £50-100+ on marketplace earlier in the year.

Sounds like London! I was waiting at a train level crossing on the way home and was surrounded by about another 10 cyclists. I was the only one who didn't have e-assist or a full-on completely illegal +40mph hi-tensile steel monstrosity with x2 batteries and forks bent backwards dressed like a ninja in a puff-jacket 🤣
