The anti Klein brigade.

First time I picked one up I thought "F**k me this is lighter than my road bike!"

Yup. While obviously the material had something to do with it, the whole thing is just more compact and "less of it". Parts essentially the same like road, hell, even the rims and hubs practically the same. I love the period when MTB came in and ruffled feathers. I think for me, I put more down to Tom Ritchey on a lightweight drive than anyone else.

From memory my frame, forks, BB, headset, bars and stem (mc2) all in are 2.6kg. It’s a 20” frame, Klein size. I’ve never weighed the frame on its own.

Klein ...breakable. Thats the most stupid thing Ive ever heard. You confuse this with Easton E9 tubing my man! Kleins are far from being known for failure.
@fguki:
Sorry, unfortunately you are totally wrong:
Vintage Klein bikes breaking is not the most stupid thing at all.
Be informed, do your research, read = be knowledgeable!
If you're choosing to be ignorant or have half knowledge, then that's your choice, but do not pretend to know, if you clearly don't.

Why (for example) the boxed fork, with square head was discontinued after 1991....guess why? Because they broke very often. It was also the same reason why FUNK bikes changed to round heads in 1992.

Back to Kleins:
Other areas on the frames prone to breaking - were seat tube area near the top, on the rear, headset area and others.
Kleins 6061 T-6 tubing (used with Kleins until late 1993), which btw came from a large plane builder, was unfortunately not that strong and prone to break, especially with bikes from 1990 - 1993.
@fguki: Read on the subject, do your research, inform yourself, talk with many who have owned various Kleins who have really driven them offroad, not just put them on a wall or driven around the corner to impress their neighbors. You will then have to acknowledge that (unfortunately) all mentioned points are 100% correct. 🍔

@sinnerman:
Man, are you a sinner? Or you sinner! Are you a man? 🤣
Anyway, it's just a wordplay! :cool:

Back to bikes:
Wow, the soda bike looks really nice!! What brand is that?
Bebsi, or KoKa KoLa?

I didn't race bitd so my only exposure to Klein was via the 89 and 90 Freewheel catalogue. Lovely looking things, very exotic but steel was real for me at the time so I didn't pay them much attention. They also didn't really feature in MBUK much so I never really saw any progression or had any knowledge of the demise and Trek buyout. For me they always just remained the memory of an 12 year old flicking through Freewheel.

Certainly never hated them, would happily have one if money was no object, would pick a Yo Eddy ahead of one, neither will ever happen.
