The "3 way" Kona project DONE AT LAST!!

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

wow!

is the frame a kind of chrome powder coat? it looks like it's been polished up beautifully. I've been thinking about a similar finish to some P2's to match a lovely CNC stem I have

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

Yeah pretty much, it 's the sort of paint finish you get on alloy wheels. It's a gloss finish so has a clear coat on it too I think. It is very smooth!

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

would you be able to find out which powder was used, so I can start asking around here if anyone does it?

that would be top, cheers

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

I'll ask, if they will tell me... who knows

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

right build time is getting very very close now for the '94 :D :D

I've been slowly collecting the parts I wanted and tidying them up, polishing etc.

This is what I've preped

Pair of Middleburn cranks, a CD spider, a pair of Control Stix bar ends, a NOS Control centre headset, some Dia Compe Barrel adjusters, a Kona P2 Cable hanger, a Kona dog collar and a kona seat collar.

Most of these items have been sanded with wet 'n' dry and polished with Autosol.

I then sent them off to Steve Barry at Acorn Plating Ltd for Anodising

I have them back in under a week (stunning turn round)!!! and here's what I got....
Bar ends

Control Centre Headset

Kona parts

Cranks

Spider

I have to say the finish is very good, not perfect, but then the items were nowhere near perfect to start with.

I'm most pleased with the Kona bits as I was not sure if they could be anodised or not, but they've come out a treat!

Looking forward to some construction very very soon! :D

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

surprising how many parts there are in a control centre headset....

With the steel races re-fitted

and fitted to the frame :D

a REALLY tight fit, was an absolute pig to get in, never had so much trouble fitting a headset, but got there eventually

Re: The "Out with the old & in with the new" Kona project

Thanks peeps, was having one of those days yesterday, if it could go wrong ... it did! %**£$! but we ended up with something looking a bit bike shaped, Just waiting on some new chainring bolts. I had the parts as seen here....

Bit of Old Skool meets Modern, but see those purple chainring bolts...????

well the little buggers are slightly inconsistent in diameter one was too big to sit in the ring, got jammed and had to be drilled out  new set please!

but it's getting there. If you don't like anodised bling.... don't keep reading future posts, If you do well....... I'm waiting to finish it and have a bit of decent light to take some Pics.
