....yeah I know we've done this to death loads of times before, but....

Why is it so difficult to sell good usable retro stuff, I'm not talking NOS, but decent up and running gear for proper retro bikes that are used...? Seems to me that I have bits up for sale and there's just no interest at all, some of it I would imagine is a bit harder to come across now, like Suntour and Shimano DX. The prices I have it at, once I've taken the postage cost out, I am practically giving it away.

I would actually give a lot of it away, but now I'm of the opinion if that's what I have to do I may as well keep it in the spares boxes 'in case' :facepalm:

I have noticed also that the quantity of bits availiable has dropped too.
My thinking was most folks are content with what they have and not many are selling bits on.

Yes, I think that's pretty much the conclusion we drew last time - most people have the parts/bikes they want and would rather being doing that really strange thing....riding them! :shock:

But then there's obviously still a bit of a market out there because look at the stuff on ebay and the prices it (sometimes) attains.

I'm thinking of getting my stuff properly cleaned up and getting it on ebay, but it's just that constant 'back of the mind' niggle that someone will pick fault with a tiny scratch that wasn't adequately described.... :facepalm:

its a waiting game, just need one buyer...
if you want shut quick you can end up giving it away, thats what we all love (as buyers) and hate (as sellers).

I think everyone is cautious now with accumulating junk. We may soon have to run to the hills with whatever we can grab as the floods come.

Truth is that lots of retro stuff was way overpriced, and reality hits home eventually. People who have been making money stripping and flipping probably still make enough to carry on.

I suppose I'm really wanting to keep it all as I know it will come in useful for *something* but I'm on such a low income that selling this stuff for a reasonable price is the only way I can justify carrying on with other builds...

I could just have one bike. But that would be boring.

I think this is a real problem, we had a massive clearout and sold a lot of kids toys and my wife got rid of a lot of stuff mainly clothes that hadn't been worn in decades but was in good condition and indeed some stuff that had never been worn with lables (from before we met :roll: ).

Well some people manage not to read description and find fault. Ebay seemed to just accept buyers comments and refund money way before the proper process was followed. The amount of time it took to resolve was ridiculous and only eventually refunded all the postage costs that had been incurred. Since the buyer had already been refunded this cost was borne by ebay so you can guess how easy it was to get the cash out of ebay. The amount of time my wife spent on the phone was out of all proportion to sums involved and I guess this is what ebay and / or certain buyers rely upon. Seems about 1 in 10 roughly judging by amount sold and time arguing on phone. I've learnt not to ask.

People use negative feedback as a weapon and ebay won't remove without a lot of hassle, even when the comment is positive and inexperienced user clicked wrong button in error and this is acknowledged by everyone :roll:

Collection only now as far as I'm concerned, being in London now you would hope a bigger market.....

I do wonder about collection only being in the middle of nowhere in Somerset, even with easy access to the M5 I don't think read that when you put it on the listing. Come to think of it, like you say, I don't think buyers read the description at all, or they wouldn't ask such DUMB ASS QUESTIONS :evil:

(You know the ones, you put every single dimension on the listing and they still ask you, 'What size is it mate?')

probably much the same reason you are selling it - the folk left in this hobby probably aren't really looking for run of the mill usable stuff. applied for parts. frames and full bikes

top of the line (xtr/xc pro) /exotic (boutique/campag)/ nos you will get away, but everything else, bundle it and karma if you don't need it.

i karma'd a true temper KHS frame and forks - as good a steel frameset as you could wish for - the other day as i knew i was never going to find a buyer for anything worth while (true it did have a stuck seat post...)

not everyone got the memo though, i did see a 90 Muddy Fox courier up for sale for £350 on here the other day!

but if you have any suntour xc 9000 parts let me know!
