T-minus 7 days… (1991 Rocky Mountain Altitude)

as someone mentioned, the yellow is slightly lighter than that of the frame. and i had already ear-marked those for the spare/loaner 96 Vertex TO i have. so not likely it'll be used on the Altitude.

the tires are 2.25/.3 i think. just ignore those. that entire wheelset won't be used. it's just what i had lying around from my 96 Blizzard build. tyres are still to be determined but i have some ideas. ;)

right now i think it's a toss up between the AC cranks (with some black RF rings) and the RF Turbine IBs I just got delivery of yest. needed some cleaning up, and swapped off the incomplete rings that came with it for a set of RF rings. which set of cranks to ppl think i should go with?

wish i hadn't sold off both spare pairs of ano red brake levers i had. but how would i have known two years down the road i'd need a set again.

i will prob just go with a black or silver set of brake levers. but if i do feel like i need a splash of colour, i still have a spray can of red plasti-dip which i can apply on the lever handles for some added grip. :D worked quite well on a set of Avid levers I had installed on the bike for the missus.

so to Steve's (CC) approval, i've committed to installing the RF Turbine IB. i've put in the RF taperlock 122mm axle BB, as well i swapped over what i believe to be very early RF chainrings from the Cirrus that don't have 8/9 speed markings. the rings have a different cut than any of the other rings i've had. the cut aways are larger areas and the a pattern line is more curved, instead of the typical harder straight edges. also the ramping is different. the rings have a much nicer flow away from the clover spyder that matches quite nicely.

as i ran out of full sets of Syncros COM, i went with a Shimano "one-key-release" with a set of Ti bolts from a COM. this in combination with a set of Shimano chainring bolts i happen to have.

a package came from PeteC. :D thanks!

besides forwarding a few things for me, we did a brake lever swap. a set of silver Avid Ult SD-L (linear/long pull), for a set of black Avid Ult SD v-chipped from him. Might use these, or swap these in for a set of silver canti lever version off the Mongoose Amplifier. :?

i'm liking how this looks. just need to wait for the red grips to be delivered, as well as find that set of Syncros steerhorns i stashed somewhere, which i had listed to sell.

after which, all that remains is to rebuild the wheelset, get an appropriate saddle, install the f/r mechs & chain and cable it all up. :D

oh wait… tyres!

Yeah, that looks good. Don't put too much bling on it, specially with those cranks. Maybe with the AC cranks, extra bling wouldn't hurt.

I actually like the black IB with gold spider best (after the yellow which has already been ixnayed). Bike is looking good. Makes me want the one for sale in 21.5 really really bad.
