Suspension vs flex stems

Try a set of Fox float forks, cannot say a bad word about them except price. Have lockout if you ride where suspension is not needed.

IMO flexstem is a half arsed and cheap solution, it may take somne of the buzz out but it is never going to compete with suspension forks

I have a pair on one of my bikes and they work great, although 13 years old now.

No news on THE GREEN ONE ?

That's a good point, and I did nearly order an RC36 lockout kit from Pace when I got the 1" adapter from them recently, but word on the street (internet) seems to be that Pace's lockout systems are prone to breaking after not too much use.

A lockable fork would be nice, but finding one with a 1" threadless steerer has proven challenging, hence the decision to go with Pace, with the added benefit that I can reuse the fork on other retro builds with the 1-1/8" spare steerer I know have.

The green one is in cryogenic storage along with the steel Dynatech I got from THM at xmas :xmas-wink:

I rode on a Softride suspension stem for a long time before moving up to suspension forks, and the first thing I noticed was the increase in that "trail buzz" that you're talking about. The stem was really great for dampening small bumps and vibrations, but in contrast, the Softride wasn't nearly as effective of an overall suspension system as the forks. And the Girvin Flexstems are nice to have only when compared to riding fully rigid. Otherwise they're junk.
If you were to invest in a suspension fork, new or old, go for a Marzocchi.

A bit of a weird question, but are modern suspension forks any good? I've tried a set of Pace RC 36 this weekend, with disappointing results. .

Absolutely zero problems with RC36's over here. And I suspect modern forks are much improved now!

Suspension design has made galactic leaps in performance in recent years. There really is no comparison.

The more modern you get, the better they become. A modern Kashima coated fox CTD is no comparison to a fork of even five years ago, never mind 20.

Call those forks, son? These are forks.....

As friend of mine said, after a short test ride "The only bicycle forks I've used that feel like trials forks"
