Suspension forks, your views/experience please

The SID evolved over the years, they are air Judy's to start off with but improved into the turn of the 00s where they than had a ugly wrap brace/leg redesign (I have these).

Which do you have. Pictures help here.

The Manitou will be solid and simple.
The SID will be light and adjustable.

Seals etc can still be had for them, bushing probably too, I think they all moved to long ones (SID).

Both will work, which will look nicer?

Better. More other choicds
A different style the Bombers (air version) . They are dead simple if you avoid the Super/X-Fly.

And many choose Fox, but not so much of a mention now as there was 10 or so years back on here.

Any particular Fox models in mind anyone?

I had bad experience with early marzochis so want to avoid them if possible…

Cheers!

Aren't Marzocchi pretty heavy? I had some Z5 (basic) ones bits. Lovely and plush but heavy AF

no one ever called them noodles.
yes a bit heavy compared to SID, but bomb proof in my experience.

but as you don't want to buy, it's out the question really. :)

Fox are crap at keeping spares. Once the fork goes out of production that don't tend to make any more spares so you are left with whatever's in the dwindling supply chain.. They also kept changing oil spec's and weights, so you never quite know what you need. Rock Shox tend to be better supported for parts, are easier to work on at home and tend to use the same oils.

Fox are probably better fork when going hard, but I always found the set up sweet spot narrower and prefer Rock Shox for general riding about.

My Gary Fisher Supercaliber !.jpg 35284867731_27503176ed_o.jpg RM forks 1.jpeg RM forks 2.jpeg
So I'm thinking of swapping the SID forks (possibly) onto the RM, the chainset ( possibly on the RM) and the saddle definitely. I'll then sell the Fisher with swapped bits and keep the RM. Whatcha think?

I think the SID is 100mm with ATC different so you'll be changing the handling a little bit but **** it.
I know people call them noodles, but I never really noticed the set I rode (not mine and not extensive so what do I know).

I think the GF is lovely, leave it alone and ride the pants off it. :)
