Suspension alternative

Bottom line is that I need to dampen the bumps on the front end of a bike.. too much rattling = me in hospital and 3 months doing almost nothing that requires arms.. :?

With that in mind, I'd be looking for a fork. Flexstems took a little bit of trail buzz out of the ride, but I always found them sketchy with certain bars, or under hard braking in corners. A decent period correct fork (Mag 21/RC35) won't break the bank - they pop up often enough and look cool. I'd go for a decent fork over a Flexstem anytime..

That was my way of thinking up until, well, the early hours of this morning..

Just looking for another option really.. seeing the nicer retro offerings all rigid an' that.. wanted to join the party ;)

It's unlikely I'll ever ride anything more technical than general XC.. too old to go downhill at anything more than a sight-seeing pace..

And I really like that combo....

(This ones not for sale though !)

WD :D

I've only skip read so apologies for any repeats - big tyres and spongy foam grips.

And if parts really ache, drop handle bars with cx levers for the ultimate in hand positioning?

Fair enough, maybe a Flexstem is an option. That combo does look pretty cool, WD Pro's thread is incredible - looks like one hell of a build there. Just spent a good half hour reading that.

That suspension hub bothers me, but the reviews are classic: "I am amazed what a difference ½ inch of suspension makes". It's like stepping back 20 years!

I don't think anyone used a Flexstem after 1993.

I would use a fat front tyre like the Specialized Captain 2.2 (even the 2.0 is huge) It has old skool looks (like a Ground control Extreme) and the signature of 90's racing hero Ned Overend, so plenty of retro cred.

The revamped Nuke Proof brand are doing titanium riser bars which might help.

I got this one, is the best you can get, an ahead late production softride. Far far away much better than the flextem, this really can make the job a short travel suspension fork, the flexstem is only for the vibration.
It is also very rigid and with no weird feeling thanks to the paralelogram design. I was lucky to get one directly from the manufacturer, they are out of stock.
Regards

Looks very modern :?

Current thinking is fat tyre and spongey/comfy grips and a flex stem (preferably the combo one that I keep getting taunted with).. ;)

Would know pretty quickly how well it works (or doesn't, as the case may be)..
