So after 10 years+ of wondering when I would get around to working on my 92 Dyna-tech again & lurking on retrobike, it happened.. we moved to a house with actual space enough to work on some projects...

Potted History....

I'm the original owner of this MT4 which was ordered from Reg Braddicks in Cardiff, I didn't really have enough money after buying the frame to purchase parts for it in a contiguous fashion, some parts were from my previous wheels & other random bits found around Reg Braddicks.

Within a year... I had left home and my life went a bit mad... eventually the bike came back to me full time just before I joined retro bike... around 2014.... the seat stays were a mess most of black sparkly bits had been attacked by the elements... on a positive note the main tubes weren't too terrible..

A Poke In The Eye (how not to restore your bike)

I set about cleaning the paint & rust from lugs and rear triangle whilst slowly collecting parts for the build... during the process, in a momentary lapse of reason I applied a dremmel with the wire brush wheel attachment to the frame without donning the safety specs & manage to catch a patch of rust with the backside of the wheel... Straight in the eye!.. What an idiot!... I spent a very painful night waiting for the eye hospital to open, then the next couple of days visiting the hospital to have the rust removed....

I eventually completed the stripping of the black bits... found what I thought was a reasonable homage to the original black paint in 2K format yay... I applied many coats, started with etch primer, then normal primer... a couple of coats of base black, then the sparkly stuff... finally some lacquer... it looked great... I had a great thought, I'll wrap it in bubble wrap until I'm ready to deal with it.... this was such a bad idea, I hadn't left the paint job long enough to cure. The bubble wrap stuck to everything... what an Idiot... I packed it all away...

Ten years later

The tiny flat has been replaced with a decent size house...I have a shed omg... I have a shed w00t... I end up looking at Retrobike again.. and end up with a white Kona.. thanks @Ackers & quite a lot of the parts to get going.. thanks @Spanky22b I look at the Kona... then I notice the MT4... it whispers to me... "me first"

The paint wasn't as terrible as I had remembered, it was quite some effort with elbow grease & will never win any beauty contests, but it kind of looks ok because you are dazzled with sparkly bits & its helps if you squint a bit lol.

The forks and headset have gone on this morning, I need to pick up some headset spacers.. the two used at the moment don't look right & are differing size and colour. I also need to work out how I'm going to clean off some of the cutting compound left around the brake bosses on the forks... I suspect it will be an exercise in patience involving much dabbing of water until the compound softens up...

I've had this TI bottom bracket kicking around for ages.. I think the thread on the cups might be shot... will give it a whirl, might end up reverting to the UN-91 if I can't get the threads to bite..

Love these
I had one once.
Ibbz that was a nice build, I read your mt4 build thread & the decade one too, you lucky devil, any plans to get another Dynatech?
I still do. I love it

Do you have a link to a build thread or pictures, I would love a gander at it :)

A small update.... Since the last post I have mostly been cleaning bits...

I chickened out on installing the ti bottom bracket the alloy cups were not filling me with confidence that I would be able to remove the bb trouble free ..

So in went the un91, which slipped in nicely..

so I thought the wheel & m900 bits were all shiny and would just need fitting... how naive!

The cassette put up a fine battle in trying to retain the coating of gunk... the rear mech had hair wrapped around the jockey wheels... how....

IMG_0160.jpg

Everything was actually in really good condition, but needed a good clean and lube etc... I lost the will when it came to the tires... they might get some love later.

Next cutting time, I could spend more time cutting the frame it still has lumps and bumps etc, but is looking better... at some point I will get it outside in some better light.

After popping the original faded Kalloy UNO stem on, I really missed the vibrant urple/3dv of how it used to look, so have located a NOS one on evilbay from Portugal for not a completely terrible price! Yay!

So the bike is currently sat like this while the stem is carried slowly like an Olympic torch relay from Portugal..

I have a World Class rear hub, it is not a brand that is seen much. Interesting and somewhat exotic

I have never seen another and cannot find much information on the internet. I think there was one link which lead back here speculating that the same company also produced ti bbs for gt?

I think it was something like this:
The company that manufactured for GT also manufactured for World Class
They were identical, they were Hadley
But it is true there is little information

I could only get the tandem version, there are few units on the market and I didn't want to be left without him
