Suntour/Browning Beast

I was just thinking about one of my projects which involves using a Beast Electronic front crank. Anyone played with these. Comments etc???
In the instructions it says you must use 6 spd not 7. I can only think the chain width may be different so may effect how it changes across the front chainrings?
I'm going to build a bike around it. Would have been nice to get hold of about a 89 or 90 Stumpy team but haven't seen one on this bit of the planet.

The idea of these always seemed a bit barmy, but my bike was available with a 'Browning Automatic Transmission' BITD and I've thought it might be worth a go one day.

I can't find much info: seems they went on until c.2002.

Can't see why the 6 spd necessity would be about chain width: was there ever a difference between 6 & 7 spd chains?

Maybe the chain position at the back has an effect on th shift up front. If the spec on my stumpie is anything to go by, these would have been offered with XT Uniglide 6 spd hubs which have a 130mm OLN and, I presume, wider spacers between cassette cogs.

Someone that posts from Finland, Sweden or Norway occassionaly...has one of the first steel framed GT Xizang's and those where spec'd with it so he may be able to lend you some help. Search "steel Xizang" and pm the original thread poster.

BEAST (Browning Electronic Accu-Shift Transmission) licensed from Browning.

Beast is not a good name for any type of shifting device. Dead before birth really.

Finnish bicycle manufacturer Tunturi specced their top of the line bike with the BEAST / XC Pro gruppo back in the day. I'll see if I can find the test report of that...
