Anyone got tips for a stuck seat pin , alloy in a steel frame?

Hi,
Try boiling a kettle of water, pour the hot water on the frame at the seat tube seat pin junction,let it cool and it should come free that's what I did with my lemond ,although it was freezing outside at the time which no doubt also helped

Nothing worse than a stuck seat pin but there has been many many successful removals by many members.

I once removed a seized up seat pin by taking out the bottom bracket - putting a condom over the seat tube/pin then taping up the condom to
form a seal then pouring Coca Cola down the seat tube and left it for a week, then putting the saddle back on and it twisted freely and came out.

Sometimes a sharp tap downwards with a hammer can free it enough to get it moving....once it's moving, it's yours!

Only do this if it's quite a way out though, not if it's well in the tube...and do it at your own risk, etc....

I've done quite a few, but generally, few are truly siezed. Boiling water is a good start. If you are getting any movement at all, even a fraction of a millimetre, it will come out eventually. One thing that often gets suggested which I would avoid! Is clamping the stem in a vice and using the frame to twist out the stem. I've seen this cause paint fractures and it will strain the lugs in a way they are not designed to be strained. If its definitely stuck, this is the simplest, quickest way:

Stuck seat post

Warm the seat post - hot air gun is ok -this will expand and push the seat tube out as it cools spray with plus-gas or similar.

if its really stuck, and the frame is being re-painted , get the gas welding plant out, thats how frame-builders do it !!!
