Did a headset for Bobcatmax a few weeks ago, luckily without having to resort to fire.

Plenty of swearing, hammering and splintering wood were the order of the day.

I agree about using an ordinary repair stand. Mine is a custom made job built by a hot rod builder. So it has a extremely wide base and is made entirly from big lumps of steel to my own design. This way when a bike is securely clamped in (by its seat post or a cheap seat post if there is an expensive one on the bike) I can brutal with head sets and the stand won't move, the head set will though. Shame you are not closer as you could run it down, clamp it in and have a go without charge.

Getting someone to hold it is going to limit how brutal you can safely get. I would take to a LBS pay then a tenner and get them out that way.
