Stolen bike manchester

New to the forum so hopefully I'm posting correctly and in the right place for my post.

I was advised to join the forum the guy I purchased my bike from is I think a member on here so here goes.

My klein full suspension bike has very recently been stolen in Manchester and has been reported to the police who haven't been of much use and told me to keep my eye on selling sites etc.

The bike is a kind of flecked purple and is a Palomino model and I was advised that 2003 was its year of manufacture.

It has rock shock Psylo suspension forks and specialised tires and disc brakes that are juicy brand with no travers saddle and post. Also has wtb wheels with black shimano hubs and silver shimano gears.

Really been gutted by this after getting back into riding this was my pride and joy and the most expensive bike I've owned so I would be very keen to get it back and would be very grateful for any info on its whereabouts.

A good drink for anyone that comes up with its whereabouts and safe return.

Will try and get a picture on when I figure out how on here.

sounds rare/ odd enough to stand out. If you can add some photos that helps too, often you see selling adds without proper names and titles, so an idea of the looks might spark something.

Since last night I have been informed my bike is for sale on gumtree so I am trying to keep my rag and arrange a meet with the scumbag which is against police advice but more than they look like doing.

Good luck resolving this. Are you confident it's yours from the photos? I wonder what your plan is for resolving the situation on your own? Seems a bit risky to me to do this without the police being involved. Having set up a meeting are you sure they won't send someone to accompany you? Assuming you reported it at the time there is a criminal incident to be resolved here. Thankfully it's been a while since I had to deal with a couple of my own bikes that were stolen but in the case where I'd found out for myself the identity of the person who was in possession of my bike the police were very effective and acted quickly.

Make sure you take someone with you :shock: , and video with your mobile via your top pocket incase they simply pack up and leave if they recognize you, something the police may need for Id perhaps. looks like they have put a false address down on gumtree maps.... NHS day nursery, (unless theyre getting younger these days)

With the bike being on Gumtree already, I'm surprised the police won't work with you. Have you sent them a screen grab of the advert? Ask them to at least come with you discretely, just to make their enquiries. Occasionally the seller will have bought stolen goods from auction and the link to the theft cannot be proven. The West Didsbury lot have been helpful to me in two recent cases either accompanying to meet seller or adding to other crimes already committed by the same thieves. Police are interested in 'conspiracy' - organised crime as opposed to one-off thefts. If you can show/intimate this may be organised crime then they should be proactive. Good luck.

The police are investigating after finally arriving although it's made difficult as I have spoken to the seller who lives in an offenders hostel so without knowing what we'd be walking into or the offences commited the police are keen to attend alone which will hopefully get the right result if they attend today.

Confidentiality and the nature of the sellers accomodation has made it very awkward but it looks to be heading the right way.

Morning all,

Just thought I'd give a quick update on my bike and I'm pleased to say I managed to get it back after finding the whereabouts of the thief in a youth homeless hostel of all places. Bit of a moody place to find it, with a large group of youth offenders present at the digs and walking into the unknown but the wardens at the centre were great and the police attended once I'd spoken to the wardens. Turned out the guy was only 17 but was well known to the police and wasn't best pleased with him claiming he had had paid a few hundred quid for it which is some going with being homeless and unemployed as I know I didn't have that kind of cash to throw around at that age but the the story looks to have saved him on this occasion.

Luckily I didn't get a good hiding from the group of lost boys and all worked out well in the end despite the police not looking like taking it further which on one hand I understand but on the other hand the kid will no doubt be out doing the same again in the near future.

My Kryptonite lock has since been binned after it being an easy job for the thief due to it being intact and left at the scene, god knows how they did it but I won't be using that brand again.

Thanks for the kind replies and I hope to have a few more visits to the site in better circumstances in the future as it looks to be a decent crowd which isn't always the case online.

Off to clean the carnage from the bike and hopefully ride it like I stole it, like that little bugger did!

What sort of Kryptonite lock was it? I remember there being an issue with the ones that used a cylindrical key like this:
