This project has been on ice for the past few weeks. However, the snow is quickly melting here, so I've made some progress recently to get it ready to ride ASAP!
I built the wheels with XTR hubs and Mavic M231 rims. The Smoke and Dart combo seemed like the perfect choice!
For the fork, I decided to go with a RockShox Magnesium from the same era. It was originally on my Zaskar when I first got it, but the steerer was way too short. However, it’s the perfect length for this frame.
Based on the Zaskar's original condition, I expected all sorts of horrors when I opened the fork… but to my surprise, it was in great shape! The oil was barely dirty, and it even held air on one side. As for the other side, it would deflate in a matter of seconds. I figured out that the little air valve used to inflate it was faulty. Since these are basically unobtanium, I tried to make my own using RTV sealant, based on this thread. So far, it's holding air, fingers crossed
I'm still waiting for a thing or two to arrive, but I should be able to build this Vertex pretty soon!
