SRAM NX and 1x in general

I read about the new sram NX group on bikerumor the other day. Looks like a reasonably cheap way to get a 1x11 drivetrain (something I've been contemplating for ages on my parkpre).

Looking at the sram website, in the GX group they have two different rear mechs - one for 1x11 and one for 2x11. What's the difference? and is it possible to use the 2x11 rear mech in a 1x drivetrain, or the other way around?

And I also read in the bikerumor article that there's a shimano 11 speed cassette that fits a standard 8/9/10 speed freehub body? is this correct?

Shimano 11 speed MTB cassettes (NOT road) slot straight onto the existing 8/9/10. The largest sprocket is dished.

SRAM 1x usually has a different top pivot/jocket arrangement than 2x, to keep the top jockey the same distance from the cassette. the 2x rear mechs have to allow for changing chainring sizes too. So they don't usually have this feature. Its called X-Horizon (i just checked)

A 2x mech will work on a 1x system, but not as well.

Some 1x mechs will destroy themselves if you try to use them with a front mech....... (Hurl themselves into the cassette.)
Think the NX cassette is also 8/9/10 freehub compatible. GX and up needs the XD driver body
