Aha, that may be something else. Mavics have a joiner inside for when the rim is welded. This can occasionally go loose and roll round the box section of the rim. At stopping it falls to the bottom with a 'ting' - it can be maddening.

I had that once. Managed to sort it by tapping a ridge into the inner section to hold the wedge in place. Was a pain until I figured out what it was.
