Split view of a Rock shox super deluxe... need you help

Retro Newbie
Hi there,

I'm newbie at Retrobike but my passion for bikcyle and specialy downhill since 1997 more or less...

I recently bought a good old STS with a super deluxe...

It wasn't working as well as I could get it used to a long time ago.. So I decided to open it... I was very surprised when I pull on the main reservoir,.. It came off very easily.. no need to unscrew it.. They were just seals...
Only one "screw path" (sorry for my bad English) on the outside of the shaft, the side that is inside the reservoir... understand ?
I guess that's the only point of attachement but nothing comes on it !

As it is a second hand, no idea what happened to it before...

I am use to maintaining suspensions (especially old ones) but it's the first time I have to work on a Superdeluxe..

Thank you for your help!

Vincent

Hi again,

I found the solution at my problem !! But it's a little bit damaged... it could be te reason why it wasn't working very well

Here is a picture of the damaged part...

While I was searching in Retrobike any information about this shock, I mentionned that are still looking for the kind of oil to use and the amount... AND, if it works under pressure ?

I will be glad to collect all the practical information in a single topic.

Thank you for your help mates

Here I am again...

As I cannot find the type of oil, I tried with what I have in stock :
Rock shox 15wt

I put 30ml of oil and placed the kind of silver ring at its highest position.
No air via the very small hole..

Bad result : Super fast rebound until I turn to its maximun the blue button.. and then it almost completely locked !
Turning the "rebound" button (the red one) doesn't change anything.

Still need your help

Hi again,

Well, I didn't really solve my problem.. I found a brand new shok on ebay ! And I got the onwer's manual with it !

Let's talk about this new shock and its settings :

The red knob is supposed to control the rebound... you barely feel it !
Ok, let's imagine the setting would be locked because it hasn't been used for ages.

The blue knob is supposed to control the compression... but it does more than that, it also influences the rebound !

If you know how it was built, it's easy to understand why, it's a one way circuit.

Are there other Superdeluxxe users who would comment my little experience with the super deluxe ?

I have the repair manual for this shock. If anyone wants it PM me your email.

These any help ?
